Programs Running At Startup

I"ve written many tips in the past referencing the fact that most computers load too much unnecessary software during the Windows boot-up process. The result is a longer wait for your system to become ready and also a reduced amount of system resources available for your computer to use in running your business software. To help correct this situation, you can use the "Run" command and execute a program titled "msconfig" to disable much of what loads automatically when Windows starts.Unfortunately, the resulting list of programs displayed under the "Start Up" tab within "msconfig" can be confusing for even the advanced computer user. On the upside, there"s a web site that explains much (but not all) of what you"ll likely find using the "msconfig" utility and it also gives solid advice as to what these startup programs are, and clearly indicates which of them can be safely disabled. If you want a faster running machine, then take a look at Whedbey.net. As a minor side note, Windows also automatically scans your computer to see if a new floppy disk drive has been installed since the last time it loaded. As you"re unlikely to add floppy drives on a regular basis, a couple of seconds can be shaved off your boot-up time by disabling this feature. To do this, press the "Windows" and "Pause" keys simultaneously. Select the "Performance" tab and then "File System." Look to the "Floppy Disk" tab and uncheck the "Search For New Floppy" box. Choose "Apply" and then "OK" and you"re done.

Ask Dr. Real Estate: How Do I Work With Seasoned Citizens?
Question: I recently got a listing of a classy little older home in a great neighborhood from a very nice widow lady. I"ll call her Mrs. Wiggs. My broker actually referred her to me, since she was a long time friend of the family and I"m the most experienced agent in our office. She had lived in the home for over 30 years and she and her late husband had raised their family in it. I choked up on my first tour of the home when she showed me the pencil marks on the wall where she had measured the heights of each of her children on their birthdays.

REBIG Bluffs MLSNI Forensic Auditors, MLSNI Shareholders
Realty Times has obtained documents that reveal that REBIG, one of the targets of the forensic audit ordered by MLSNI shareholders, is negotiating with Price WaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to sign a nondisclosure agreement in advance of any review of REBIG documents or discussions with REBIG personnel. While the concept is acceptable to PWC, suggests the attorney for MLSNI, terms of the agreement are "problematic."
